List from Chapter 6

U.S. CITIES WITH THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF FEMALES

The United States has more females than males (50.9 percent to 49.1 percent). Most areas in the United States are within a few percentage points of these numbers for men and women, though the percentage of women is above average in most of the states in the East and below average in most of the states in the West. Urban areas tend to have more women as well as retirement communities. Military towns, agricultural areas and mountain resort communities tend to have more men. University towns can swing either way; some, like Huntsville, Texas (Sam Houston State) and West Lafayette, Indiana (Purdue) are strongly male, while others, like Northampton and Wellesley, Massachusetts are strongly female (they have Smith College and Wellesley College, respectively, which are all-woman colleges).
