Election Bonus Lists

VERY SMALL COUNTIES (LESS THAN 5,000 PEOPLE) WITH THE LOWEST PERCENTAGE OF THEIR 2000 PRESIDENTIAL VOTE FOR GEORGE W. BUSH

People in small counties were much more likely to vote for Bush than Gore in the 2000 election. Among counties with less than 5,000 people, Bush had 68.0% of the vote, while Gore had only 28.2%. However, the total number of votes (for all candidates) in these counties was only 371,683, so their influence was rather limited.

Here are some of the exceptions. In all cases but 2, whites made up less than 50% of the population. In every case, the per capita income was well below the U.S. average (for Sioux County, North Dakota, the per capita income was less than 1/3 the average).
