COUNTIES IN "GORE STATES" WITH THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF THEIR 2000 PRESIDENTIAL VOTE FOR GEORGE W. BUSH
Seven of the ten counties listed here have populations below 10,000. Many states have a sharp contrast between the urban vote (more Democratic) and rural vote (more Republican).

Many of the counties in this list are in Iowa, Oregon and New Mexico, which are states where Bush and Gore were close in the vote count.

The counties listed here in eastern Oregon are especially anonymous, though these are geopolitically more similar to rural parts of Idaho, Nevada or Utah than to the Pacific Northwest.
