KPALIMÉ, TOGO (PART ONE)
Kpalimé is a town about 75 miles northwest of Lomé. It is at the foot of some moderate-sized mountains and close to several waterfalls. The pics here include both the town and nearby areas. There are enough pics in this section for two pages...click here for Part Two.
First...pictures from the town of Kpalimé, especially the market near the middle...
Very large yams at the market...
A dirt road near the middle of town (most side streets are dirt roads here)...
A church near the middle of town (with an incorrect clock--it was more like 3 PM than 12:15)...
Some shops along the road side, including this musical instrument/sound system shop...
Interesting banyan Ficus elastica in the middle of town...
A different Ficus species (a common one in Togo) in the outer part of town...
A main road in the outskirts...note the French style utility poles...
Nearby, some pedestrians...of course, carrying things on one's head is very common in West Africa...
Be careful where you walk...gutters are very deep here...
There were a lot of agama lizards (Agama agama) in Kpalime...
A view of the nearby mountains from the outskirts of Kpalime (with lots of haze)...
A large termite mound in the outskirts...
Another termite mound (close up) just outside of town...
Here is Agbatoe Falls, in the nearby mountains...
The rock is at such an angle that it has the illusion that the picture is tilted.
Looking up at the jungle vegetation beside the falls...
Vegetation looking down towards the bottom of the falls (from above)...
The general landscape near the falls...
A much smaller waterfall nearby...
