PANAMA CITY (PANAMÁ)

Here are pictures from Panama City. Panama City has a very modern downtown which has seen much growth in recent years but yet also an old colonial city (Casco Viejo) which dates back to 1671.

First, the modern downtown skyline...

View from a freeway bridge (to the east)...

View looking the other direction (to the west)...note the edge of the bay to the left...

Nearby view from downtown looking southwest (over part of the bay) towards Casco Viejo...

Opposite view from Casco Viejo looking towards downtown (with a developing thunderstorm in the distance)...

Bay view near downtown...

A rich neighborhood near downtown...

A mansion (on a bluff above the bay)...

In contrast, a neighborhood that's considered to be bad near Casco Viejo...

A mosque in Panama City (in a neighborhood about half way between downtown and Casco Viejo). Note that Panama City is likely the most ethnically diverse city in Central America...

Now for the Casco Viejo pics...

Part of Casco Viejo viewed from a mud flat/beach...

Casco Viejo sea wall (with downtown in the background)...

Teatro Nacional...

Iglesia Catedral...

Casco Viejo street...

Narrower street...

La Campañía Ruins...

Old woman feeding cats in front of the ruins...

More ruins nearby...

Iglesia de San Francisco...

With statue...

Removal of long pods from a royal poinciana...

Rich residence in Casco Viejo...

In contrast, some unrenovated buildings (Casco Viejo is in the process of gentrification)...
