LARGEST CITIES IN THE WORLD TO BE MORE THAN 10,000 FEET ABOVE SEA LEVEL
There are 10 cities around the world above an elevation of 10,000 feet with at least 100,000 people. All are either in the Andes or in Tibet. Two have populations approaching one million--neighboring cities of El Alto and La Paz, Bolivia. In contrast, the largest city in the United States above 10,000 feet is Leadville, Colorado, with fewer than 3,000 people.
