U.S. STATES WITH THE LONGEST PERIOD OF TIME WHERE THE SAME PARTY CONTROLLED THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

Many states in the South are famous for having Democrats in control of the governorships for long periods of time from after Reconstruction through most of the 20th century. In fact, Georgia had Democrats in power of the governorships from 1872 until 2003 (over 130 years)! What is surprising is that a Northern state (Vermont) actually had a period of time of the same party controlling the governorship similar to that of most of these Southern states, except with the opposite party--the Republicans.

And the state that ranks last? Alaska...it had no more than 8 consecutive years of the same party controlling the governorship (Democrat, 1982-1990).
