U.S STATES WITH THE MOST (AND FEWEST) BOOK PUBLISHERS PER MILLION PEOPLE

Book publishing appears to be an activity most common in colder states, especially the Northeast. While New York is not #1 per capita, it has many of the largest book publishers (and thus is #1 per capita in revenue produced by book publishers). New York also leads the country in the actual number of book publishers: 411. However, smaller states, including #1 Vermont, have more book publishers per person. The Central Rockies has a respectable showing with Colorado #4 and Utah #9. The South has the fewest book publishers per capita, with Mississippi having only 1/40th the amount that Vermont has!
