CAPE COAST, GHANA
Cape Coast is a city of about 170,000 people along the central coast of Ghana. The most notable landmark is the Cape Coast castle, built by the Swedes in the 1600s but also occupied by the Danes, Dutch and the British (who did a lot of reconstruction).

Cannons at the castle...
Rusty cannonballs for the cannons...
Main part of the castle (with quite a few organized crowds from schools)...
Another pic of the same area (but looking northeast instead of west and with more of a mix of crowds)...
The Obamas visited Cape Coast Castle during their trip to Ghana in 2009...
A passageway in the castle...
A dungeon where slaves were held...
Beach at Cape Coast just east of the castle (viewed from the castle)...
Beach to the west of the castle...
There were some shacks just inland from the castle...

Another view nearby (including a mosque)...
Another view, with Fort William up the hill...
A church in Cape Coast...
Note the schedule (a 4:30 AM bible class!!!) and also Fort William in the background to the left...
You can see both of the hillside forts here (Fort Victoria on the left, Fort William on the right)...
Funny "alcoholics" sign (they're referring to alcoholic drinks, but it looks like they're referring to alcoholic people)!
A typical Cape Coast neighborhood...
Pigs grazing on trash (fairly close to the center of town)...
A lagoon just west of the city...
The road going west towards Elmina, with the beach on the left and lagoon on the right...
An egret near the beach...
And the beach at the west end of Cape Coast...
